Job Purpose

The Cleaner is responsible for providing professional cleaning services to ensure a clean, safe and hygienic environment within the Louisville Public Library. The successful candidate will perform cleaning duties in offices, boardrooms, kitchens, and public areas, maintaining equipment and materials while complying with health, safety and hygiene standards. The role contributes to the overall comfort, safety and functionality of the library and office environment.

Requirements

Educational Qualification:

  • ABET Level 4 Certificate (Grade 9)

Experience / Competencies:

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and tools

  • Basic understanding of health and safety requirements

  • Basic knowledge of chemical use and handling

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to follow corporate cleaning procedures

  • Prior experience in corporate or institutional cleaning will be an advantage

Skills:

  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain cleanliness standards

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions

  • Basic administrative skills for reporting and maintaining cleaning stock

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning services in offices, boardrooms, kitchens, and public areas of the library

  • Dust, sweep, mop, wax, scrub, disinfect, and vacuum floors, doors, furniture and equipment

  • Clean and maintain kitchen basins, utensils, and refresh kitchen areas

  • Empty and clean bins; collect and dispose of waste paper and other refuse appropriately

  • Maintain and keep cleaning equipment and materials in proper condition

  • Report malfunctioning or broken equipment promptly

  • Request cleaning materials and ensure adequate stock levels

  • Assist with other related duties as required by supervisors

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and hygiene standards while performing all tasks
