The Department invites suitably qualified and committed candidates to apply for the position of Disability Assistant Officer, which is currently available at the Vhembe District Office. This post is advertised under Reference Number LDARD 17/11/2025 and offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully towards promoting inclusivity and supporting employees living with disabilities within the public service.

The successful candidate will be appointed at Salary Level 06, with a total remuneration package of R269 499 per annum, in line with government salary structures and applicable benefits.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12 (Matric) and hold an NQF Level 6 qualification in one of the following fields: Office Assistance or Office Management, Public Management or Public Administration, Business Administration, or any other relevant equivalent qualification recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

In addition, candidates must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an administrative environment. Experience working with people living with disabilities will be considered a strong advantage. Applicants must also be in possession of a valid driver’s license, as the role may require travel and mobility support.

Knowledge, Competencies and Skills

The ideal candidate should demonstrate a good understanding of public service regulations and prescripts, including policies and procedures that govern the functioning of government departments. A sound and practical knowledge of disability-related legislation, frameworks, and guidelines applicable to the public service is essential.

Knowledge of the Batho Pele Principles is required, as the position focuses on service delivery, dignity, and fairness. Candidates should display a high level of empathy and sensitivity when working with people living with disabilities and be able to interact in a respectful, supportive, and professional manner.

Experience in working with disability assistive devices will be an added advantage. The role requires a strong sense of confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct, particularly when handling personal and sensitive information.

The successful applicant must have good problem-solving abilities, mobility and orientation skills, and strong interpersonal and customer care skills. The ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also being supportive and reliable, is essential. Other key competencies include computer proficiency, good organizational skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to compile clear and accurate reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Disability Assistant Officer will be responsible for providing administrative support related to disability matters within the district office. This includes assisting with documentation, record-keeping, and coordination of services aimed at supporting employees living with disabilities.

One of the core responsibilities of the role is to facilitate reasonable accommodation for persons living with disabilities in the workplace. This may involve coordinating access to assistive devices, workplace adjustments, and ensuring that employees are supported in performing their duties effectively.

The incumbent will also provide general administrative support, including handling correspondence, maintaining databases, compiling reports, and assisting with planning and coordination activities. In addition, the role requires providing logistical support, such as arranging meetings, workshops, and transport where necessary.

Ensuring compliance with disability-related legislative frameworks and policies is a critical function of this position. The Disability Assistant Officer will assist in monitoring and promoting adherence to applicable laws, policies, and guidelines to ensure that the department meets its obligations regarding disability inclusion and equity.

Overall, this position plays an important role in creating an inclusive, supportive, and accessible working environment, while promoting equality and dignity for employees living with disabilities.
