PURPOSE OF THE POST
The Department invites applications from suitably qualified, reliable, and motivated individuals to be appointed to the position of Cleaner. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring that all allocated buildings, offices, workshops, and facilities are kept clean, hygienic, orderly, and safe for employees, visitors, and members of the public.
The Cleaner plays an essential role in maintaining a healthy and professional working environment. Cleanliness contributes directly to employee well-being, safety, and productivity, as well as to the overall image of the Department. The successful candidates will be expected to carry out cleaning duties diligently, responsibly, and in accordance with departmental standards and health and safety regulations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Standard 8 / Grade 10 qualification.

Ability to read and write.
-
No previous work experience is required.
-
Basic communication and literacy skills.
-
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact respectfully with colleagues and members of the public.

Ability to perform routine and repetitive cleaning tasks.
-
Knowledge of the use of cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment will be an added advantage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
The successful candidates should demonstrate the following:

Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
-
Physical ability to perform cleaning duties, including bending, lifting, standing, and walking for extended periods.

Good time management skills and ability to complete tasks within set timeframes.

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
-
Willingness to work in different areas within the assigned centre as required.

Understanding of basic health and safety practices related to cleaning duties.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidates will be required to perform the following duties, among others:
-
Clean and sanitise toilets, urinals, basins, wall tiles, and other ablution facilities to ensure hygienic conditions at all times.

Empty, clean, and wash dustbins and ensure proper disposal of waste.

Sweep passages, corridors, staircases, offices, and common areas.
-
Scrub, mop, and polish floors to maintain cleanliness and prevent slipping hazards.
-
Dust and polish furniture, shelves, desks, and other office equipment.
-
Clean windows, doors, walls, and other surfaces as required.

Sweep and mop kitchen areas, ensuring that food preparation and eating spaces are kept clean and safe.

Vacuum, wash, and maintain carpets and floor coverings.
-
Sweep, mop, and scrub holding cells where applicable, in accordance with safety guidelines.

Keep storerooms neat, clean, and well organized.
-
Safely use, handle, and store cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment.

Report any damages, breakages, defects, or shortages of cleaning supplies to the supervisor.

Perform any other reasonable cleaning-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
-
The position involves physical work and may require standing, bending, lifting, and walking throughout the working day.
-
Cleaners may be required to work in different buildings or facilities within the assigned centre.
-
Adherence to departmental policies, health and safety regulations, and hygiene standards is mandatory.
-
The successful candidates must be punctual, reliable, and committed to maintaining a clean working environment.
