The Department invites suitably qualified, experienced, and dedicated candidates to apply for the position of Administration Clerk: Supervisor, which is currently available at the Towoomba Research Station. This post is advertised under Reference Number LDARD 18/11/2025 and offers an opportunity to play a key supervisory role in ensuring the effective delivery of administrative services within the Research Centre.
The successful candidate will be appointed at Salary Level 07, with a total remuneration package of R325 101 per annum, in accordance with applicable public service salary scales and benefits.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12 (Matric) or hold a relevant equivalent qualification recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). An appropriate tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 in Public Management, Public Administration, or a related field will be regarded as an added advantage.
Candidates must also have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an administrative environment, preferably within the public service or a similar institutional setting. Supervisory or coordination experience will be beneficial.
Knowledge, Competencies and Skills
The ideal candidate must demonstrate sound knowledge of clerical duties and administrative practices, including data capturing, record management, and the collection and compilation of statistics. The ability to operate a computer effectively is essential, with practical knowledge of standard office software and systems.
Applicants must have a good understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework governing the Public Service, including relevant policies, prescripts, and procedures. Knowledge of government working procedures and administrative systems is critical for ensuring compliance and efficiency.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, as the role involves interacting with staff, management, and external stakeholders. The candidate must be able to convey information clearly and professionally.
Good interpersonal relationship skills are essential, as the position requires supervising staff and working collaboratively within a team environment. The successful applicant should be flexible, adaptable, and able to function effectively under pressure.
Additional competencies include strong planning and organizational skills, the ability to prioritise tasks, and attention to detail. Proficiency in relevant languages and strong computer skills are also required to perform the duties of the role effectively.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Administration Clerk: Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and providing administrative support services within the Towoomba Research Station. This includes overseeing the day-to-day operations of the administrative component and ensuring that services are delivered efficiently and in line with departmental requirements.
The incumbent will supervise and coordinate general clerical support services, including filing, document management, correspondence, data capturing, and record-keeping. Ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proper control of administrative processes will be a key responsibility.
The role further involves supervising supply chain clerical support services within the Research Centre. This includes overseeing administrative processes related to procurement, inventory control, and compliance with supply chain management policies and procedures.
In addition, the successful candidate will supervise and provide personnel administration clerical support services, including assisting with human resource records, staff movements, leave administration, and other HR-related documentation within the Research Centre.
The Administration Clerk: Supervisor will also be responsible for supervising and providing financial administration support services. This may include monitoring expenditure, processing financial documents, maintaining records, and ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures.
A key aspect of the role is the supervision of human resources and staff within the administrative unit. This includes allocating tasks, monitoring performance, providing guidance and support, and ensuring that staff members perform their duties effectively and professionally.
Overall, the position requires a capable and organized individual who can ensure smooth administrative operations while maintaining compliance with public service regulations and departmental standards.
