The Department invites suitably qualified, experienced, and results-driven candidates to apply for the position of Senior Administrative Officer: Asset and Inventory Management, which is currently available at the Head Office in Polokwane. This post is advertised under Reference Number LDARD 10/11/2025 and plays a critical role in ensuring effective control, management, and accountability of departmental assets and inventory.
The successful candidate will be appointed at Salary Level 08, with a remuneration package of R397 116 per annum, in accordance with public service salary structures and applicable benefits.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must be in possession of Grade 12 (Matric) as well as an appropriate undergraduate qualification at NQF Level 6 in one of the following fields: Logistics Management, Financial Management, Supply Chain Management, Accounting, or a relevant equivalent qualification recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years’ proven experience in Asset and Inventory Management. A valid driver’s licence is required, except in cases involving persons with disabilities, in line with government policy.
Knowledge, Competencies and Skills
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of public service legislation and prescripts, including but not limited to the Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, and the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA). Sound knowledge and practical experience in applying legislation that impacts asset and inventory management are essential.
Applicants should have experience in implementing and maintaining internal control systems to ensure effective asset management and accountability. Practical knowledge of government systems such as BAS, LOGIS, or similar asset and financial management systems will be a strong advantage.
The role requires strong people management and leadership skills, as the incumbent will supervise subordinates and coordinate team activities. Additional competencies include financial management, problem-solving abilities, planning and organizing skills, and effective time management.
The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to analyze policies, interpret regulations, and ensure compliance with departmental and legislative requirements. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, along with facilitation and coordination skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Administrative Officer will be responsible for providing comprehensive asset and inventory management services for the department. This includes overseeing the physical verification of assets and ensuring that the asset register is accurately maintained and regularly updated.
The incumbent will facilitate the acquisition and procurement of departmental assets, inventory, and consumables, ensuring that all processes comply with supply chain management policies and legislative requirements. Monitoring stock levels and ensuring the availability of consumables will form part of the role.
Another key responsibility is to manage and oversee the disposal of obsolete, redundant, or unserviceable assets and inventory, ensuring that disposal processes are conducted in a compliant, transparent, and accountable manner.
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and safeguarding departmental assets, including tracking asset movement, preventing losses, and ensuring proper usage and custody of resources. This includes implementing control measures to reduce risk and ensure compliance with asset management standards.
The role further involves supervising staff and managing resources, both human and physical, in line with relevant directives, policies, and legislation. This includes allocating duties, monitoring performance, providing guidance, and ensuring effective utilization of resources.
Overall, the Senior Administrative Officer will play a strategic role in promoting financial accountability, good governance, and effective asset management, thereby supporting service delivery and organizational efficiency.
